2008 Psoriasis Video Contest: The best of the rest

In addition to the 11 Finalists selected in the 2008 Psoriasis Cure Now Video Contest, there were nearly 70 other videos that we could not give prizes to. Among those are some GREAT videos. So visit the Psoriasis Cure Now groups on YouTube (Humor track and Serious track) to watch these videos, then come back to this page to tell us which ones NOT selected as Finalists should have been. We'll be looking for ways to promote these other videos as well.

Just click on "COMMENTS" below and tell us where we screwed up in the judging!

I can't believe that 'Psoriasis Bully' didn't make the top 10. It seems to be one of the most professional (although similar to 'Playground'), and appeals to both adults and children alike. But I'm not a judge, and the contest as a whole is a great idea!

Another good one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lxuOJucg7MI ! When the very talented star of that video is a world famous actress someday, she'll tell Jay Leno how she did this contest and was not selected as a Finalist, and the joke will be on us.

I just viewed A Shortened Life and can't believe that this video was not chose as the winner- much less a finalist. I presenly take Raptiva and luckily get some relief most of the time. However, I know that more effort needs to get behind the research, and vividly seeing what we go through is necessary. Thanks to Sonya Rose for getting it accross so well.

Itchy Situations was far more polished than most, and just funnier and informative.

Good news for nakka: both of your suggestions WERE Finalists! Any others beyond those 11 that deserve special recognition?

It's pretty ridiculous that "Psoriasis Bully" wasn't chosen.

"Yes. Sonya's. Hers are really real and you can see the real problem. Did not see psoriasis in any other video you have."

Great point about the real and visible psoriasis in her ad. We think it's important for people to see real psoriasis to understand what's at stake. A definite 'plus' in her work.

I must say the winner is for me too formal. I know, what Psoriasis really means and I'm sure - the best video is Sonya's emotional "A Shorten Life"! I wish her success in future!

Three dramas struck me as extremely professional and poignant.

1. Mother and Child, by the same guy that did Playground
2. The Appointment
3. Step Back into Life

I honestly thought each of these would make it and thought they were a higher quality than some of what made the cut--definitely higher than some of the comedies, and since there were wild cards, it seemed some strong dramas were left out in favor of comedies that didn't strike me as professional or effective.

I noticed some people commenting on mine … Chuck Kline, Nakka Murali, and whoever “anonymous” is, I’m sure is a good friend. Thank you.

As a contestant in this contest for the second straight year, I slowly began to get frustrated at the fact, that creating 4 videos (3 accepted) for PCN wasn’t enough … even when I showed a real person with the real disease … one could see the flakes fall off his skin in the wind … and the pain, the blood from scratching way beyond filming…if it’s been around since 35 AD or so I read … how much longer…?

Psoriasis is not pretty and not nice to look at—for the general public, I suppose. However, after viewing all the videos in the contest, I came to one conclusion: We all must be grand winners here. You would think more people out there; over 300 million in the US alone … would have cared enough to enter or brought it to light. But, near 70 is a great start … people who put their time and effort into this one project alone. Everyone pulled through and got the message across to me, in their way … pretty special. I, too, want this skin condition to go away once in for all—for my loved ones and so many others. I have seen their struggles, their pain and suffering…

It would be interesting now, which finalist is in it for the heart, was from the very start. Who will be the one who will give back the prize money to Psoriasis Cure Now! for further Psoriasis & Psoriasis Arthritis research, maybe even a portion of it…

That should give you some idea or some clue as who should be chosen this year … Who are the true winners who really care that much … to do something that noble?…
