Treating psoriasis and/or psoriatic arthritis during pregnancy is often made more challenging by the limited data available for evaluating the potential impact of various treatments on the developing baby. Since 2005, the Autoimmune Diseases in Pregnancy Research Study has been looking for answers. The purpose of the research study is to find out more information about any risks to the developing baby from psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis and the medications used to treat these diseases during pregnancy. Pregnant women with psoriasis and/or psoriatic arthritis with or without medication use can participate.
This observational research study is being conducted by the Organization of Teratology Information Specialists (OTIS), a non-profit organization dedicated to providing accurate, evidence-based clinical information to patients and health care professionals about exposures during pregnancy and lactation. Any woman who needs treatment for her skin disease during pregnancy can contact OTIS as a free resource to confidentially discuss the potential benefits and risks of medication use in pregnancy.
For more information about medication use in pregnancy call toll-free (866) 626-6847. Also, check out their past publications, medication fact sheets, and more at the OTIS website.
