The campaign is owned by Amgen & Pfizer (they market the popular biologic Enbrel [etanercept]). Our only concern is the ever-closer ties between pharmaceutical/biotech companies and the big nonprofits. We worry about the objectivity of nonprofits when they intertwine with companies selling to patients. It’s why we stopped participating in these lucrative deals, and why we hope other nonprofits will join us.

The “third rail” of nonprofits–the issue that dare not speak its name–is the tight financial ties between nonprofit patient advocacy organizations and the companies selling to the patients. Talking about *that* is a way to lose friends!

But we’re more interested in a cure than in keeping feathers unruffled. So stay tuned. It’s time we talked about this vital issue.
