Description and Comments
AMG 714 is a fully human monoclonal antibody that targets interleukin-15
(IL-15). It has shown positive results in early trials for rheumatoid arthritis (RA). IL-15 regulation, if effective, would represent a new approach to psoriasis treatment.
A Phase Two study of AMG 714 in 66 patients with moderate to severe psoriasis is ongoing. Results are expected to be released in 2011. If successful, the company might move to bigger, longer Phase Three studies.
The AMG 714 program is a reminder of how long it can take to develop new treatments. Amgen has been studying AMG 714 since at least 2004. FDA approval, if it ever comes, is probably still several years away.
