Description and Comments
AMG 827 is, according to Amgen, "a fully human monoclonal antibody that binds to and blocks signaling via the interleukin-17 ("IL-17”) receptor." It is being studied in moderate to severe psoriasis, and if one day approved, it would offer a new approach to psoriasis treatment.
In a small Phase One study, most of the 16 patients who received a single dose of AMG 827 saw their psoriasis symptoms improve substantially. As a reporter for Internal Medicine News put it (see below): "Blockade of the receptor for the proinflammatory cytokine interleukin-17
using a novel fully human IgG2 monoclonal antibody has shown promise as
a treatment for chronic plaque psoriasis." A Phase Two study was also recently completed, and its results are expected to be released in 2011.
AMG 827 is also being studied in Crohn's disease, rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and asthma.
Amgen is also developing
AMG 714, which target IL-15.
