Description and Comments
AN2728 is an anti-inflammatory topical preparation (ointment) that inhibits TNF-alpha and the cytokines IL-12 and IL-23, the same molecules targeted by most of the currently available biologics. It is a conventional type of drug, not a biologic; also, it is not a steroid so it is unlikely to have the side effects that limit the use of topical steroids. Although it still has a long way to go in testing, the hope is that AN2728 might combine the efficacy of the biologics with the safety of a topical medication.
AN2728 is a phosphodiesterase-4 (PDE4) inhibitor. Other News and Links
