Description and Comments
BTT-1023 is a fully human VAP-1 monoclonal antibody being developed by Biotie Therapies Oyj of Finland for plaque psoriasis. The company recently reported what it considered a favorable safety profile of the treatment in a Phase One study. While this early-stage study did not address effectiveness, the company reported that some patients did see their psoriasis improve during the study.
Vascular Adhesion Protein-1 (VAP-1) appears to play a role in chronic inflammatory diseases including psoriasis. BTT-1023 is designed to block VAP-1 function.
BTT-1023 is also being studied in rheumatoid arthritis.
In October 2010 the company announced "Biotie is committed to continuing development of its VAP-1 antibody and
preparatory activities towards the start of phase 2 studies are
underway."
