Description and Comments

Fezakinumab is a biologic that targets the cytokine IL-22. Studies in mice suggest that IL-22 plays an important role in psoriasis. An IL-22 blocking agent similar to fezakinumab prevented the development of a psoriasis-like disease in mice; and conversely, application of IL-22 to the skin of mice caused some early psoriasis-like symptoms. Fezakinumab is in the early stages of testing for safety and effectiveness in psoriasis patients.
