Description and Comments

Lestaurtinib is part of a family of drugs known as tyrosine kinase inhibitors. Tyrosine kinase inhibitors are often used to treat cancer, and lestaurtinib is currently being extensively tested as a potential cancer therapy. However, one study is investigating whether lestaurtinib might also effective against psoriasis. The tyrosine kinases targeted by lestaurtinib are molecules that sit on the surface of many cells, including skin cells, and help transmit signals from the outside of the cell to the inside. Blocking signal transmission in skin cells with a drug like lestaurtinib might inhibit the development of psoriasis plaques.
